Primary objective
As a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, deliver specialised ear and hearing health care services in a culturally safe and effective
manner by providing evidence-based treatment, education, and training, promoting well-being, maintaining patient data on appropriate
health systems and providing preventative ear and hearing health messages through health promotion and education.
Context statement
This position is located within NT Hearing Services and requires professional capabilities to deal with complex social situations; and the
ability to engage with and train community members and primary health care workforce on improving health outcomes. Position specific
learning and development opportunities for this position will be available.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work in partnership with relevant providers to deliver and record culturally responsive ear and hearing health care through targeted
outreach service provision using established information technology systems to capture data as per departmental policy to ensure
continuity of client care.
- Mentor and deliver health education to Primary Health Care (PHC) workforce, families and key stakeholders in otitis media prevention,
management and clinical care through culturally appropriate training using evidence-based practice clinical guidelines and health
promotion.
- Engage with Aboriginal families and community members to strengthen community involvement in health service delivery.
- Provide clinical supervision, training, mentoring and support to Trainee Aboriginal Health Practitioners.
- Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health, and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken, to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with no restrictions.
2. Qualification minimum AQF Level 5 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement.
3. Demonstrated experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner and experience in providing health
promotion and health education programs.
4. Demonstrated local cultural knowledge, respect and safety of local communities and the health information systems used in the clinic
setting and patient care systems, with attention to detail in recording data.
5. Ability to self-manage within a multi-disciplinary health team, travel by 4WD and or light aircraft to remote communities often staying
several days and provide primary health care services against national health care standards in a culturally and clinically safe manner.
Desirable
1. Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) driver's licence or ability to obtain.

and participating in a learning agreement to obtain the required qualification.

exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position. This role carries specific immunisation requirements. To be
eligible for appointment you will be required to meet the immunisation requirements associated with Category A healthcare workers
(direct contact with blood or body substances).
