Primary objective

Provide coordinated education programs, sound clinical and education advice in a culturally safe and effective manner to clinicians

and support workers to promote health and well-being of the older person.

Context statement

Under the leadership of the project manager, contribute to the NT wide Confident Care in Aged Care project. This new project seeks

to design, manage and implement codesigned learning packages for clinicians and support workers who care for our Older

Australians. Contribute to excellence and innovation by developing, delivering and coordinating training and education consistent

with national standards and adult learning principles to achieve excellence in practice. Engage with multi-disciplinary teams for

collaboration in education whilst delivering multi-model training to external and internal stakeholders across the Northern

Territory. Experience in aged care highly desirable. Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis by road, light plane or ferry

and stay for up to a week is required.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide specialist education advice and support professional development activities within a defined area of practice.

2. Engage with community members to strengthen community involvement in health service delivery.

3. Provide cultural support to other health professionals to build cultural competence and responsiveness.

4. Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support to Trainee Aboriginal Health Practitioners to develop as competent and

safe practitioners.

5. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary practice and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner with no conditions.

  1. Minimum AQF level 6 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement and/or signed learning

agreement demonstrating a commitment to achieve this.

3. Demonstrated extensive experience as a proficient practitioner across aged care, primary health care and/or education.

4. Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of education theory and practice.

5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships with internal and external

stakeholders and facilitate a positive learning environment.

2. Demonstrated highly developed clinical knowledge, skills, and experience in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery.

  1. Demonstrated education/training or experience in the development and/or delivery of education theory and practice.
  2. Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate clinical education and professional development for the specialist

practice area.

5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships with internal and external

stakeholders and facilitate a positive learning environment.

  1. Demonstrates well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence

health care provision for individuals and groups.

Desirable

1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to specialty area.
