Primary objective

Provide public health technical expertise for the Public Health Operations in Emergencies for National Strengthening in the Indo-

Pacific (PHOENIX) program at the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC).

Context statement

The PHOENIX program aims to support the Pacific and Southeast Asian countries to deliver better health outcomes for all, by

contributing to more resilient and equitable public health systems with greater capability to response to health emergencies. The

PHOENIX program will deliver outcomes focused on supporting public health emergency response. Flexible conditions for the

position can be negotiated.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide public health emergency response leadership and technical expertise to the PHOENIX program.

2. Develop, support and deliver public health emergency education and training to health professionals internationally.

3. Support the development of multi-year country plans with the PHOENIX Directors and country stakeholders and implement

education programs.

  1. Willing and able to travel throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
  2. Represent the PHOENIX program at national and international meetings/committees.
  3. Support the NCCTRC Director of Public Health and other NCCTRC program areas as required.
  4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Registered as a specialist medical practitioner with Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA) and a fellow

of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM).

2. Demonstrated experience working in health emergency and disaster management, and public health programs, preferably in

the Indo-Pacific.

3. Knowledge of current and emerging Northern Territory, Australian and International public health and health emergency

management issues.

4. High level interpersonal communication skills including the ability to engage effectively with national and international agencies

and with individual stakeholders working well independently and in a team.

5. High-level administrative, organisational skills with the ability to generate reports, meet deadlines, develop high quality

documents for international and Government agencies, other stakeholders, and the public.

6. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, ages and gender.

7. Ability and willingness to work outside normal working hours when required to support delivery of activities.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of NCCTRC, AUSMAT and Emergency Management Teams initiative.

2. Experience in developing and implementing education and training materials.

3. Willingness to become an AUSMAT member if not already.
