Primary objective

Provide program leadership and participates in the delivery of high quality medical and primary health care services to remote communities to

improve the health of individuals and communities in accordance with Primary Health Care principles.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide primary medical services to designated remote communities through regular scheduled visits and ongoing telephone and

administrative support.

2. Provide public health services to remote communities using a community development model to enhance health outcomes, improve services

and infrastructure.

3. Participate in a telephone consultation services for all residents and visitors in remote areas and be responsible for the coordination of medical

retrieval and patient travel services, this includes tasking Careflight aircraft and crew.

4. Support and participate in the training of Rural Registrars in working towards their Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General

Practitioners / Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine or similar postgraduate qualification.

5. Support and participate in education and training of other Primary Health Care (PHC) providers including Primary Health Care nurses and

Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP).

6. Participate in the collection and maintenance of computerised client health information including Medicare billing.

7. Develop and maintain the knowledge and skills for the position including expertise in both clinical and public health medicine.

8. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

2. RMP are required to hold a Fellowship or equivalent of either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP),

Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or Australasian Faculty Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) together with

appropriate rural training or equivalent training and experience.

  1. Relevant postgraduate experience in primary health care settings, including general practice and rural/remote Indigenous health care

experience.

  1. Good written and communication skills, including Information Technology skills and the ability to liaise with other agencies, both Government

and Non-Government.

  1. Experience and skill working with computerised patient information management systems and office applications.
  2. Willingness and ability to travel by road or light aircraft to remote communities and to remain away when required.
  3. Hold a current Northern Territory manual driving licence or ability to obtain one prior to commencement.
  4. Preparedness to undertake cross cultural training and mentorship and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Postgraduate degree in public health or extensive experience in delivering public health services in Aboriginal communities.

2. Experience working in remote Aboriginal communities.
