Primary objective

The Specialist Mental Health Worker is responsible for the provision of specialist assessment and intervention to children and

adolescents who are experiencing mental health problems and provides educational and consultancy services to their careers and

other professionals in the context of a multidisciplinary team.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. A clinician competent in delivering mental health services within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the context

of a multidisciplinary team.

2. Manage a mixed caseload of children and young people in which assessment, clinical intervention and case management to

accepted clients is provided, with supervision from senior clinicians.

3. Maintain regular attendance at clinical meetings and contribute to the development of individual care plans. Responsible for

the implementation of clinical guidelines and standards related to their professional services within the area of child and youth.

4. Maintain accurate and up to date clinical and service delivery records, in accord with established information systems and

protocols, including completing case reviews, risk assessment, and outcomes measurers where appropriate

5. Maintain high standards in report writing, accurate and up to date clinical records and service provision statistics through use

of established information systems.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

7. Foster a positive workplace culture.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Qualification in Psychology with full registration to practice as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation

Agency (AHPRA).

2. Demonstrated experience in the mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation methods appropriate to children and

adolescents.

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends in the delivery of mental health services to the target

population.

4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and other professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds

and to prepare written reports of a high standard, and in the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of

clinical and service delivery records.

  1. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, engaging in ongoing professional development

and contribution to professional peer consultation.
