Join our team and take the wheel in a dynamic role where you'll keep our entire fleet, plant and equipment running smoothly—through scheduled servicing, proactive maintenance and fast-paced breakdown response.

About the role:
  • Service, maintain and repair a wide range of Council fleet vehicles, trucks, earthmoving machinery and small plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults using technical knowledge, schematics and diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure timely, accurate record-keeping using Council's Asset Management Software (EAM) and comply with all RMS and ADR regulations.
  • Promote safety, efficiency and environmental responsibility across all worksites, while collaborating closely with Council staff.
  • Supervise and mentor apprentices, supporting their practical development in the Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade.

We are seeking:
  • A qualified mechanic with a Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle, Light Vehicle and/or Plant Mechanics (or equivalent).
  • At least four years of practical workshop experience.
  • A current Medium Rigid (MR) driver licence and strong literacy and numeracy skills for interpreting manuals and completing records.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, client-focused team.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and basic experience using fleet management software and diagnostic systems.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
