Roses in the Ocean is a national not for profit organisation founded on and operating through the lens of lived experience of suicide; we exist to save lives and to reduce emotional distress and pain. We seek to lead the significant cultural shift needed to save lives through harnessing the perspectives of all we represent, along with our own lived experience of suicide. With our actions driven and guided by those with a lived experience of suicide, we innovate and transform suicide prevention, and drive and deliver system reform. We support organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention.
Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as 'having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, supported a loved one through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.'
About the Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager of Service Delivery, the objective of the Head of Community-led Safe Spaces role is to take responsibility for leading the implementation and delivery of Roses in the Ocean's non-clinical, Community-led Safe Space services nationally and to develop key partnerships and processes to support the fidelity to model and the sustainability of our Community-led Safe Spaces Project.
Working closely with our Safe Spaces Project Coordinators, Capacity Building Coordinator and Service Delivery Administrators, and growing team of Working Groups and Volunteers, you will actively contribute to their success by providing leadership and support of the expanding Safe Space project, ensuring fidelity to model, anticipating emerging needs and helping manage relationships.
This role has five core purposes:
- Project management of the implementation and expansion of the project.
- Provide operational leadership and support to the Community-led Safe Spaces team in their backbone support of the project.
- Ensuring fidelity to the Community-led Safe Spaces service model and operating guidelines including but not limited to overseeing and ensuring implementation of necessary policies, processes and protocols in individual Community-led Safe Spaces sites; establishment of responsive continuous improvement processes internally and developing accountability to the service model.
- Supporting the team with the development of key local, regional and national partnerships within local government and corporate sector to support Community-led Safe Spaces sustainability and scaling opportunities.
- Overseeing the development of a sustainability framework, planning and implementing an ongoing 'arm's length' support program of Community-led Safe Spaces sites no longer auspiced by Roses in the Ocean but part of a growing national network.
This role requires strong proven skills and previous experience in project management and operation leadership and includes: service establishment and implementation, budget management and the provision of accurate and timely reporting.
As a member of the management team it is expected that you will positively contribute, nurture cohesion and collaboration with other managers and your teams, leading with individual accountability with a whole of organisation approach and high standards of professionalism.
You will need a flexible and resourceful approach, and understand community initiatives based on a volunteer workforce require significant communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
Please note, if you live within the Brisbane greater region, there will be an expectation for you to work a Hybrid model, 2 days from home, 3 days in our office located in Newstead. If you live in regional Queensland or Interstate you can work remotely from home.

- Demonstrated expertise in managing multi-million start-up or scaling of projects including: Planning, implementation and delivery of complex projects.
- Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks to ensure successful outcomes.
- Proficiency in budget management, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within financial constraints
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in guiding teams towards achieving organisational objectives
- Strong knowledge of safety and quality implementation to ensure and maintain standards and compliance.
- Proven track record in building community ownership and engagement to promote long-term support of initiatives
- Proven track record in developing meaningful partnerships with wide range of stakeholders to support the project.
- Experience in self-managing competing priorities, complex tasks, and coordinating activities to meet deadlines
- Experience in partnering with local and regional government and community stakeholders to gain support and collective ownership of community initiatives.
- High-level written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in challenging and sensitive circumstances.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Professionally presented with outstanding interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be able to work flexible times including some evenings and weekends (time in lieu arrangements negotiable).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, and SharePoint.

This role is classified under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010, and is paid above award, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.
