About the role

As the Senior Policy Officer, you will play a leading role in advancing our policy and advocacy agenda. You will develop and implement policy and advocacy strategies in key priority areas, influence government agencies and stakeholders, and provide strategic advice to senior leadership. This role is critical in ensuring Dietitians Australia's voice is heard across the health, food, and nutrition policy landscape. You will also:

  • Provide expert advice on nutrition and dietetics policy issues to the Manager Advocacy and Policy, Executive Director, CEO and, where applicable, the Board.
  • Lead the development of policy positions, advocacy strategies and submissions in priority areas.
  • Represent Dietitians Australia in consultations, meetings, and forums with government and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including government, regulators, researchers and other professional associations.
  • Engage and consult regularly with members to inform policy development and advocacy priorities.
  • Undertake research, analysis and environmental scanning to support evidence-informed decision making.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefs, and presentations to advance policy and advocacy outcomes.
  • Contribute to committees, working groups and provide support to members in policy and advocacy.

About you

We are seeking an experienced policy professional with the ability to work strategically and influence at senior levels. You will bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in dietetics, nutrition, public policy, or a health-related field;
  • At least 4 years' experience in policy and advocacy roles within health or related fields;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience preparing policy reports, submissions and messaging for government.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships;
  • Strong knowledge of Australian health and/or food supply systems, including regulatory and funding aspects, is highly desirable; and
  • Experience supporting committees or working groups will be highly regarded.
