About The Role:

The organisation is seeking a highly experienced APS6 Senior HR Policy Advisor role to lead the development and implementation of strategic HR and workplace relations (WR) policies. This role requires a proactive and solutions-focused professional with exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of thriving in a dynamic and policy-focused environment.

Level/Classification: APS6

Contract Type: Permanent role/ On-going role and S26 Preferred

Location: Canberra, ACT

Salary Bracket: $94, $105, Super (based on experience)

Requirements:

  • MUST have and ACTIVE Baseline clearance
  • Ability and willingness to Undergo Police Check
  • Selection Criteria Response

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic and contemporary HR and WR policies.
  • Conduct in-depth research, analysis, and reviews of complex HR policy issues and legislation.
  • Provide high-level policy advice and recommendations under tight deadlines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including unions and delegates.
  • Lead and support consultation and negotiation processes, balancing diverse interests.
  • Prepare high-quality briefs, reports, and correspondence for senior management.
  • Deliver secretariat support to high-level consultative committees.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated expertise in HR policy, workplace relations, and employment legislation.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing HR frameworks and policies.
  • Strong analytical and research capabilities with attention to detail.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder engagement and complex consultations effectively.
  • Experience with enterprise bargaining processes within the APS or similar environments.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to deliver outcomes under pressure.
