Position: Full time fixed-term contract (12 months)

Location: Penrith

Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.

Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

About the Role:

The Project Lead is responsible for coordinating and leading a community-led engagement initiative to ensure that the NSW Head to Health Kids Hubs in Penrith are culturally safe, accessible, and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal children and families.

The role focuses on building strong partnerships between Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), Local Health Districts (LHDs), and local Aboriginal communities. The Project Lead will ensure Aboriginal voices are embedded in all aspects of service planning and delivery within the Kids Hubs framework.

Key reasonability's but not limited to:


• Lead community consultations with Aboriginal children, families, and Elders.


• Facilitate culturally safe engagement activities including yarning circles, focus groups, and workshops.


• Represent GWAHS at community forums and interagency collaborations.


• Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and key deliverables.


• Coordinate events and engagement activities with community partners.


• Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement solutions proactively.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with NBMLHD, ACCHOs, schools, early childhood services, and stakeholders.


• Act as a liaison between Aboriginal communities and mainstream services to foster collaboration and trust.


• Support integration of cultural safety into Kids Hubs services.


• Provide cultural advice and training to partners and service providers.


• Ensure services reflect the lived experiences of Aboriginal families.


• Document community feedback, engagement outcomes, and lessons learned.


• Prepare reports for funding bodies and internal stakeholders.


• Assist in developing evaluation tools to assess community impact

Skills, Experience & Mandatory Requirements:


• Demonstrated experience in community engagement with Aboriginal communities.


• Strong background in mental health and working with children.


• Proven project management skills, including planning, coordination, and reporting.


• Strong understanding of health and social issues affecting Aboriginal children and families.


• Excellent communication and facilitation skills in culturally safe contexts.


• Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.


• Familiarity with the NSW Medicare - Mental Health Kids hub.


• Certificate of Aboriginality


• A Current National Police Check.


• A Current Working With Children Check NSW.


• Current Driver's License that allows you to drive in Australia.
