Primary objective
Review and publish operational policy documentation, provide accurate and timely policy advice and support continuous
improvement in the development and review of policy, to support improved educational outcomes of children and young
people. Policy writing and advice will be delivered using easy to understand plain language with an emphasis on clarity and
brevity.
Context statement
The Quality Standards and Regulation branch strengthens outcomes for children and young people through education and
assurance, improvement and regulation. We safeguard children and young people by close collaboration with partners across
the education system to drive quality, assurance and educational improvement outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and review operational policy that is succinct, fit for purpose and relevant, using structured and consistent
planning, considered research and analysis of emerging local and national educational matters of significance, and
identification of evidence based, quality assured approaches.
- Support others across the agency in the planning, research and analysis stages of operational policy development, and
in plain language writing and publishing requirements.
- Consistent with deadline expectations, prepare and contribute to well researched and informed high-level
documentation, reports and other correspondence.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders and clients to ensure efficient and effective
engagement on operational policy issues.
- Work actively and collaboratively in an agile team environment to assist with continuous operational policy improvement
and governance.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed knowledge of, or the ability to readily acquire, an understanding of the NT Department of Education
and Training processes, strategic direction, and local and national education initiatives, as they impact on operational
policy.
- Knowledge and experience in the review and editing of policy documentation, including exemplary written
communication skills and competence in publishing requirements, writing in plain language, with superior attention to
detail and document presentation.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a team, engage with staff at all
levels and assist with implementing an ongoing program of continuous improvement, using sound coordination and
project management strategies.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with a strong ability to manage workload, meet competing
priorities and complete operational policy review and publishing tasks within strict deadlines.
- High level of initiative and integrity demonstrated by an exemplary standard of ethics and professionalism, with the
ability to deal appropriately and effectively with sensitive issues.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in related field.
