Primary objective
Provide high level guidance and advice to Department of Health staff on the development of clinical and non-clinical policy documents.
Drive business improvement initiatives through effective project management and delivery. Lead the design and implementation of
training and education programs for stakeholders across the Department of Health, ensuring a client focused approach.
Context statement
Based within the Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety branch, the role requires extensive knowledge of clinical and non-clinical policy
governance pathways and document development. Engagement with stakeholders regarding the governance process as well as facilitating
education and training is a key function of the role. The position requires a strong understanding of consultation and approval pathways
for clinical and non-clinical documents across different governance models, and the ability to drive clinical and non-clinical policy
governance. Knowledge of accreditation standards, safety and quality principles, and a solid understanding of safe, high-quality policy
governance guidance.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead activities that support agency wide development, implementation, maintenance, review and registration of clinical and non-
clinical policy documents, ensuring a high level of accuracy with a strong focus on attention to detail.
2. Lead the development, implementation and delivery of agency wide training and education packages to stakeholders related to the
Department of Health policy development and compliance.
3. Provide high-level secretariat and administrative support to enhance operational efficiency and training initiatives.
4. Provide leadership and guidance to members of the Policy Governance Unit.
5. Advance strategic objectives and prepare high level reports, correspondence and executive briefs to facilitate this work.
6. Initiate and lead Policy Governance Unit projects while adhering to established governance practices and pathways.
7. Build and sustain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and deliver exceptional, client-focused service.
8. Actively contribute to a culture of achievement and continuous quality improvement and drive strategic and innovative thinking.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong organisational skills with a proactive approach to managing competing priorities, showing initiative, composure under pressure,
and efficient task completion with minimal supervision.
2. Proven experience in policy management, including the development, implementation, review and maintenance of policy documents.
3. Exceptional attention to detail with a consistent ability to produce high quality, accurate and thorough outputs.
4. Experience in conveying key messaging to a range of stakeholders and target audiences, both online and face-to-face, using clear,
articulate and enthusiastic communication.
5. High-level project management skills including strategic planning, implementation, compliance monitoring and reporting practices to
ensure delivery of project milestones within defined timeframes, scope and quality standards.
6. Adaptability and resilience in effectively managing workloads, including navigating evolving and shifting organisational demands, while
maintaining high performance while under pressure to meet deadlines.
7. Extensive experience providing high-level secretariat support to executive committees and strategic working groups.
8. High-level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, negotiate positive
outcomes and interact effectively with others across diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in business, public policy or other relevant disciplines.
