Primary objective
Manage the development and delivery of projects through strategic coordination, advice, analysis for continuous school and system
improvement.
Context statement
All divisions are responsible for managing projects to improve performance and deliver quality services across the Northern Territory
through the implementation of evidence-based reforms and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with other Northern
Territory Government agencies. The Sustainability and Partnerships Unit builds strategic alliances to enhance service delivery across
education and training services, while leading complex projects, policy development and governance to improve sustainable economic
practices in schools. This role is a primary driver in the delivery and maintenance of these projects, ensuring they are aligned with the
department and government's strategic intent, including efficient use of resources to guide decision-making, service delivery, achieving
results, and risk mitigation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage complex strategic projects including initiatives arising from Cabinet, ensure their alignment to outcomes through evaluation
practices, and provide progress reporting as required.
2. Coordinate, research and prepare high level briefs, submissions, reports and correspondence to enable to Minister, Chief Executive
and Deputy Chief Executive to carry out their functions effectively.
3. Liaise effectively and professionally with internal staff at all levels within the department, as well as external stakeholders, ensuring
appropriate information access, management and use.
4. Manage information collation, analysis and reporting to ensure, accurate, and reliable program and performance activity information.
Provide secretariat support across the division as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in project management, monitoring and analysis including high-level ability to investigate, manage and report
on complex issues, evaluate associated benefits, and recommend strategies, while demonstrating strong organisational skills, excellent
data capture and analysis capability, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Politically astute with proven capability to operate effectively within a sensitive environment while maintaining high standards of
professionalism, ethics, departmental values and accountability.
- Strong written communication, reporting, interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in the preparation of strategic advice and
support, briefings, reports and other correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to a high standard and to provide effective leadership within a small team to complete
strategic tasks within allocated time constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently build and maintain effective networks, undertake consultation and liaison with a range of internal
and external stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in Project Management and/or Government Contract Management and/or relevant project management
systems, Programs, Project Management Body of Knowledge – PMBOK)
2. Contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures, education systems and the strategic directions and
objectives of the Department of Education and Training and Northern Territory Government.
