Chief Engineer | 35+ metre Foreign Flagged Yacht in North Queensland

Morris Nautical is looking for a professional, experienced AMSA MED 1 Engineer for a 35m Foreign flagged yacht based in Cairns. This is a hands-on, sole engineer position requiring exceptional technical expertise across all onboard systems and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. The yacht has just been advertised for sale, but the position remains active.

About the role

As an experienced Engineer, you will be required to:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all engineering systems onboard, including propulsion, generators, fuel systems, HVAC, watermakers, hydraulics, refrigeration, and hotel services.
  • Maintain, repair, and operate the yacht's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

  • Oversee engineering maintenance schedules and compliance requirements

  • Troubleshoot technical issues with a hands-on approach

  • Maintain a detailed preventive maintenance program and manage all service schedules and technical records

  • Oversee inventory control of critical spares and coordinate the procurement of parts and technical support as required
  • Implement and uphold safety procedures in accordance with flag state requirements and keep all engineering logs, records, and statutory documentation up to date
  • Conduct regular system checks and fault diagnosis to minimise downtime

About you

  • STCW95/COST
  • Valid AMSA MED 1 or Y4
  • Seafarers medical certificate
  • Previous experience in a similar role on vessels of comparable size
  • Experience as Chief or sole engineer on vessels of similar size and complexity
  • Strong working knowledge of engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, HVAC etc
  • Familiarity with maintenance software and electronic logbooks
  • High level of autonomy, attention to detail, and ability to problem-solve under pressure
  • Australian working rights only
