Sydney, New South Wales, Australia TransGrid Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network—powering homes, businesses, and communities.

As the energy sector evolves, we're growing our workforce to drive innovation and transformation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Developer to join our team based in Sydney.

In this role, you will lead the development, planning, and management of customer-focused projects within Transgrid's non-prescribed portfolio. These projects include generator connections, telecommunications, and transmission line modifications, playing a critical role in shaping the future of energy infrastructure in Australia. From bid stage through to execution, you will drive feasibility studies, scoping, and option analysis to inform customer proposals. You'll oversee technical feasibility, scope definition, cost estimation, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.

You'll also manage design deliverables across internal teams and external partners, coordinating reviews and ensuring infrastructure designs meet operational, regulatory, and customer requirements. Regular reporting on project progress, risks, and performance will be a key aspect of the role.

With your strong leadership and technical expertise, you will guide multi-disciplinary teams, collaborate closely with customers and regulators, and ensure solutions are practical, innovative, and compliant.

A Day in the Life as a Senior Project Developer at Transgrid

No two days are the same. You'll balance early-stage feasibility with design coordination and project delivery, while keeping customers and stakeholders informed. You'll be relied on for both technical leadership and pragmatic problem solving.

  • Lead feasibility studies, scoping reports, and bid proposals for customer projects.
  • Coordinate design deliverables across internal and external teams, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Define project scope, budgets, and schedules, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, risks, costs, and performance against program targets.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders to align project outcomes.

About You

You are an experienced project development professional with strong technical knowledge of transmission infrastructure and the ability to manage complex projects from start to finish. You're proactive, collaborative, and confident engaging with customers, regulators, and multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) with relevant industry experience.
  • Proven expertise in transmission line and substation projects, including development, cost estimation, and project management.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk mitigation, budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a solutions-driven mindset.
  • Current driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites when required.

Leading at Transgrid

At Transgrid, leadership is not defined by hierarchy but by behaviour. As a Senior Project Developer, you will be expected to model our Leadership Principles:

  • Courage – take accountability, make informed decisions, and challenge assumptions to achieve better outcomes.
  • Clarity – provide direction, simplify complexity, and ensure stakeholders understand objectives and expectations.
  • Connection – build trusted relationships, foster collaboration, and create a sense of belonging for your team and stakeholders.
