As the Family Support Coordinator (FSC), you will assist the school to support children and their families and carers to successfully transition into school from early childhood services.

You will facilitate access to learning and engagement support to help establish positive patterns of school attendance, behaviour and engagement in learning.

You will also link families and carers to external government and non-government supports and services to reduce learning barriers for children.

The Family Support Coordinator reports to the principal or their nominated delegate within the school.

About the Role

As the Family Support Coordinator (FSC), you will play a pivotal role in supporting children, families, and carers as they transition into school from early childhood services. Reporting to the Principal or their delegate, you will work collaboratively to address learning barriers, promote positive school engagement, and connect families with essential support services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with children, families, school staff, and external support services to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Support children and families in transitioning to school, fostering positive attendance, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
  • Collaborate with school staff to identify student needs and connect families with appropriate services, including health and developmental interventions.
  • Provide tailored support to vulnerable children, including First Nations students, students with disabilities, and those in care, while empowering families to support their child's learning and wellbeing.
  • Use data to evaluate and improve support measures, ensuring effective outcomes in attendance, engagement, and academic achievement.

To excel in this role, you will have:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build meaningful relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working with children and families from complex and diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of support services, including NDIS, and the ability to connect families with appropriate resources.
  • A commitment to fostering positive educational outcomes for children.
  • Strong organisational and data management skills.
