Make a Difference for Children and Families

Browns Plains State School, a vibrant Prep to Year 6 community in Logan, is seeking a Family Support Coordinator to join our inclusive team.

This is a unique opportunity to strengthen family capacity and reduce learning barriers in our diverse and welcoming community.

About our School:

Browns Plains State School is a vibrant Prep to Year 6 community in Logan, embracing diversity and guided by our values of Always Learning, Always Respectful, Always Safe. In this role, you will work with teachers, staff, and community partners to support children's transition to school, encourage positive attendance, and connect families with health and social services. This is a unique opportunity to empower families, build capacity, and reduce barriers to learning.

About the Role:

As the Family Support Coordinator, you will help children and families successfully transition into and thrive during the P-2 years. Working with teachers, aides, specialist staff, and school leaders, you will develop an understanding of each child's needs and family context, connecting families with supports such as health professionals, allied therapists, and community services.

Your focus will be on removing barriers to participation—whether attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, or learning engagement—giving every child the best opportunity to succeed.

You'll support children and families from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations families, children in care, and those with disabilities or complex needs. Your approach will reflect cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed practices, and an understanding of challenges some families face. You'll tailor support to build capacity, celebrate strengths, and ensure families feel valued and empowered.

In this role, you will also advocate for families, strengthen home-school communication, and promote positive attendance and engagement. Your relational skills, life experience, and organised approach will foster a connected, inclusive, and supportive school community.

About you:

You are compassionate, culturally aware, and skilled at building trust with families and community agencies. With a strong understanding of the factors affecting school engagement, you approach families with empathy, patience, and a solutions-focused mindset, adapting to ensure inclusivity and respect.

Highly relational, you connect with parents, carers, children, staff, and service providers to foster trust and collaboration. Organised and adaptable, you manage priorities while coordinating support across agencies. Your life experience gives you perspective, and you work confidently both independently and in a team. Familiarity with the Logan region and local services is valued, as is experience working with First Nations peoples.

Above all, you are motivated to build strong partnerships between schools, families, and communities, making a meaningful difference in children's lives.

How to Apply:

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
  • Attach a 1-page written statement about how your achievements and capabilities meet the requirements of the role.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive. Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
