Primary objective

The Executive Director is responsible for providing executive leadership, advice and direction on all matters related to the Office of the

Commissioner including future strategic planning needs, Agency and National strategic policies, organisational performance, and media

and communications strategies for the Northern Territory Police. This position is also responsible for the delivery of internal and external

legal and litigation matters, including police prosecutions and judicial services for the NT Police.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Coordinate the preparation of strategic advice to the Commissioner/Executive on policy, legislative reform, research and budgetary

and performance evaluation, strategic performance and intergovernmental relations.

2. Provide high level advice and assistance to the Commissioner/Executive in the creation and communication of the NTPF strategic and

corporate vision incorporating the development of change management and diversity and inclusion strategies.

  1. Lead, influence and motivate the development of effective inter-government relations, including coordinating and managing inter-

government relationships, both at the national and local level and representing the Commissioner at national forums including oversight

of agenda items and briefings for relevant National Ministerial Council meetings.

  1. Provide strong leadership to ensure the efficient and appropriate coordination of policy, ministerial, media and interagency liaison,

correspondence and information sharing with NTG, external and National stakeholders, including other policing jurisdictions.

  1. Provide high level briefings for the Commissioner, Minister and Government to ensure they are appropriately informed and resourced

to perform the functions of office and agency.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and experience in strategic management principles and practices in the context of

organisational development and change.

  1. Substantial knowledge and experience developing the strategic direction of a complex organisation, including the underpinning

legislative, planning, reporting and performance improvement frameworks.

3. Highly developed problem-solving skills in order to develop lateral approaches to address challenging problems, demonstrating

innovative thinking, a clear vision and targeted strategy and outcomes.

4. Demonstrated high level experience in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders with competing priorities and

consulting and negotiating with them to deliver solutions that recognise the diverse needs of stakeholders.

5. Exceptional executive leadership and communication skills to drive change, provide advice, negotiate and collaborate at executive and

Ministerial levels.

  1. Experience in providing exceptional leadership and development to motivate diverse teams in high pressure work environments to

deliver timely and results driven performance outcomes.

7. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the Commissioner and senior executive to contribute to and support the key

strategic priorities of the organisation and implementation of the Government's policies and priorities.

Desirable

1. Tertiary studies in Business, Public Policy, Legal, Management or a related discipline.

2. Experience operating in a policing and/or emergency services environment.
