Headquartered in Brisbane, the NHVR reduces duplication across jurisdictions and drives consistency, innovation, and performance across the heavy vehicle industry.

Under the new CEO, the organisation is evolving its operating model and culture to strengthen delivery and impact. The Safety & Productivity Division plays a pivotal role in setting regulatory strategy, policy, and standards to enhance industry safety and efficiency.

About the Position

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Safety & Productivity Officer leads the Division responsible for the NHVR's regulatory frameworks, policy, and assurance functions.

This senior executive will shape the NHVR's national safety and productivity agenda, providing strategic advice to the CEO and Board, overseeing the implementation of the Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Bill 2025, and driving continuous improvement across regulation and compliance.

Key priorities include:

Leading innovation and reform in regulatory policy and practiceTracking and interpreting technological and industry trends to inform the NHVR's long-term strategy and regulatory approachTranslating legislation into effective operational frameworksBuilding strong relationships with government and industryEnabling industry innovation through collaboration with technical teams and proactive regulation and codes of practice developmentProviding cross-organisational and sector-wide leadership as part of a high performing executive team driving shared prioritiesLeading a high-functioning, 70+ person team across policy, standards, and engineering functions

About the Person

You are a seasoned executive with proven leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. With deep experience in policy, regulation, or public administration, you bring:

Exceptional leadership and change management skillsStrategic and analytical capabilityStrong stakeholder influence and political acumenA track record of delivering regulatory or policy reformTertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Law, or related fields
