Head of Safety

We are looking to appoint a dedicated health and safety professional seeking to make a meaningful impact in a diverse industry leading organisation. Join our team and help prevent injury and illness through the participation, co-operation and commitment of everyone in the workplace.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role will lead our Health & Safety team and maintain an effective Safety Management System aligned to an overarching governance framework.

The team provides direct guidance to Property Managers and their teams remotely and during regular property visits, aiming to continuously improve on our already high standards.

Responsibilities:


• Lead the advancement of our safety, animal welfare, well-being and environmental framework


• Promote a mature safety culture through collaboration and positive and influential communication


• Build credibility through recognising and supporting operational efforts to achieve safety objectives


• Enhance the organisation's risk management practices and identify areas of greatest impact


• Monitor performance, investigate incidents, analyse reports and develop lessons learned


• Systematically review documentation and records to ensure they are relevant, current and compliant


• Liaise with industry peers to maintain continuous improvement and best demonstrated practice

To thrive in this role, you will need:


• Ability to develop positive and professional working relationships with all key stakeholders


• A high degree of familiarity with positive, behaviour and attitudinal safety practices


• Understanding of national standards, regulations, codes of practice


• Strong attention to detail, data interpretation and commercial acumen.


• Excellent planning and organisational skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities


• Excellent written and verbal communication


• A current driver's licence and the capacity for regular travel within Australia.


• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent technical experience obtained through a trade qualification.

Experience


• Livestock Production / Cropping Industry experience is essential


• Broad and comprehensive understanding of primary production risks


• A track record of influencing positive safety outcomes


• Exposure to structured change management practices


• Exposure to occupational rehabilitation and injury management processes is desirable


• Experience in drafting and interpreting policies and procedures.
