Assistant Restaurant Manager at Coogee Wine Room
Coogee Wine Room marries the charm of great European wine bars with the convivial atmosphere only found at a neighbourhood restaurant. Our menu is imaginative and sensorial, and proudly inspired by Mediterranean cuisines. Our food offering is complemented by an award-winning 600-bottle wine list (we have been awarded Three Glasses every year since opening in 2019).
We are looking for a passionate, driven and wine-focused Sommelier to run our beloved wine list and support the Restaurant Manager in the day-to-day running of our venue.
About you:
- You have a strong knowledge of and passion for wine and spirits (CMS or WSET qualifications highly regarded).
- You have excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- You love hospitality, are courteous, have strong interpersonal skills, and exemplify professionalism.
- You have 2+ years in a fine dining environment, with solid experience managing sections and suggesting wine pairings.
- You work well under pressure, in a fast-paced environment, and have strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
- You are available to work on weekends.
- Ideally, you have experience managing a team.
Your duties will include:
- Helping to lead and inspire the FOH team, fostering a great working environment.
- Assisting in overseeing daily restaurant operations, to ensure the smooth functioning of the venue, including staffing, reservations, and inventory management.
- Collaborating with the kitchen team to ensure seamless service and coordination between food and beverage.
- Manage, curate and develop our award-winning wine list, alongside the Restaurant Manager.
- Being the face of the venue when the Restaurant Manager isn't on shift, leading the team and setting the standards.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and compliant working environment.
- Monitor venue ambiance and overall guest satisfaction – ultimately ensuring our guests receive an unparalleled dining experience.
