About Us

Little Wings is a leading not-for-profit organisation supporting NSW, ACT and QLD regional families and their seriously ill children by providing free and safe transportation to the Children's Hospitals in Sydney, Brisbane and Newcastle and home again.

Little Wings is a charity flight service owner-operator in the aviation industry that meets or exceeds all of the CASA safety regulations. Little Wings also operates a fleet of modern Hyundai vehicles for safe and comfortable return transfers from Bankstown, Archerfield and Cessnock airports or the metro airports to the Children's Hospitals. The Little Wings organisation relies upon its loyal core of volunteer pilots and drivers to deliver service excellence.

Our vision is for every child regardless of geographical location to receive rapid and easy access to specialised medical services.

This position is based at Bankstown Aerodrome.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for someone passionate and motivated to champion our mission and support families from regional and rural NSW and QLD as they care for their sick child. We need someone hardworking, charismatic, and dedicated to working with purpose every day. This is an onsite part-time role, three days per week or equivalent.

The Volunteer Coordinator position is responsible for coordinating the heartbeat of our organisation, being our dedicated volunteers. Little Wings is a 90% volunteer led organisation, this includes 100% of drivers, pilots & event staff.

This position is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, training, retention and communication with all our volunteers during an important period of growth for the organisation. This is a key role within the charity and is responsible for creating a safe, rewarding and fun environment for all our volunteers, ensuring we recognise and celebrate our volunteers' contributions and achievements and provide opportunities to meet and socialise with other volunteers.

Key Accountabilities

Find appropriate avenues to recruit drivers & events staff in Sydney, Newcastle & Brisbane

  • Onboard new volunteers including interviewing, collating & uploading of all pre-engagement documents, scheduling car seat training & familiarisation drive and conducting training on TakeFlight
  • Handover of all new volunteer drivers to the Flight Operations team
  • Ensure all driver documentation and policies and procedures are kept up to date
  • Scheduling, attending and minuting quarterly volunteer meetings in Sydney, Newcastle & Brisbane
  • Allocation of events staff to upcoming events
  • Identify training opportunities for volunteers
  • Communicate regularly and openly with management, including escalation of areas of concern when necessary
  • Ongoing communication to ensure volunteers are kept up to date with organisation developments and feel part of the Little Wings family as well as showcasing achievements & milestones
  • Work closely with marketing to capture, share and elevate volunteer stories and impact
