We are seeking a Group Manager Commercial to lead our Commercial Group within our Finance & Business Performance Division.

Remuneration & Hours:
- 38 hour working week
- Salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate
The Opportunity
As the Group Manager Commercial you will lead the development and execution of Hunter Water's commercial strategies to drive value for money, ensuring alignment between corporate objectives, risk appetite and market opportunities.
What you'll do:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive fit for purpose commercial strategies and supplier contract models to deliver best practice and value for money outcomes aligned with Hunter Water's corporate objectives and priorities.Provide strategic advice, guidance and reporting to leadership and the Board on emerging risks and opportunities to improve Hunter Water's commercial outcomes.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all commercial activities comply with relevant laws and regulations and risks are appropriately managed within risk appetite. This includes actively managing and monitoring commercial requirements in line with Hunter Water Policies, as well as NSW Procurement and Treasury Policies.
- Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to inform strategic decisions and identify emerging trends.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including supplier, partners, and internal teams. Negotiate and resolve contract issues and disputes with suppliers in a positive manner in consultation with the Procurement and Legal teams, as required.
- Governance and Performance Monitoring: Develop and execute commercial and contracting artefacts such as negotiation mandates and fit for purpose contract and other commercial frameworks. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of commercial strategies.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing commercial team that exhibits customer focused behaviour with a positive and proactive team culture, and who constantly challenge the status quo.
What you'll need to be successful:
Essential Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commercial Law, Project Management or related field
- Comprehensive background in creating contract models and delivering successful contract management outcomes at a senior level with a strong sense of business ethics and probity
- Demonstrated application of strategic sourcing and contracting across a range of categories
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and negotiating partnerships and strategic alliances to achieve outcomes
- Well-developed business/commercial acumen with a focus on customer service
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams and driving cross-functional collaboration to support complex problem solving and proactively challenging the status quo
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
Desirable Criteria:
- Post Graduate qualifications in business, supply chain, commercial law or related field
- Relevant experience in project management or related field
- Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring high-performing teams
- Experience in driving cross-functional collaboration
- Experience in leading and directing strategic change
- Experience in digital transformation and e-commerce strategies.
- Work Experience in a regulated environment, Utility or Government Sector,
- Knowledge of water industry-specific regulations and compliance standards
