Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Rural Doctors Network Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

The Head of International is accountable for strategy and delivery of the International Plan of RDN , working within RDN's newly established Australian Centre for Health Access (ACHA) social enterprise, and leveraging RDN's existing domestic and international networks, credibility and knowledge.

The successful applicant for the role will work initially with RDN's Chief Operating Officer (COO) to consolidate ACHA's reputation as a partner of choice for international health access stakeholders and ensure international networks and customer bases are expanded, activities are implemented in line with RDN's values and methods, and that international operations are viable and sustainable.

Representing ACHA internationally and with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific region, the role requires exceptional strategic, diplomatic and business skills. It entails understanding and responding to government bilateral and multi-lateral agency priorities; lead stakeholder and revenue responsibilities; fostering deep engagement with global partners; ensuring integration with RDN's broader activities; and advancing vertically integrated and culturally responsive health access knowledge-to-practice programs and products at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead RDN's International Plan, embedding operations into governance and aligning with the Strategic Plan 2025–28. Provide insights to the Executive and Board on international strategy and performance.

  • Revenue & Sustainability: Drive a multi-year funding strategy, securing partnerships with global agencies and funders, ensuring administration recoup, and building a sustainable revenue pipeline.

  • Partnerships & Engagement: Forge and manage strategic partnerships across the Indo-Pacific and beyond, represent RDN and ACHA in international forums, and establish the International Advisory Council.

  • Program Delivery: Oversee culturally responsive international programs aligned with RDN's Framework for Social Change, ensuring impact, cost recovery, and operational excellence.

  • Collaboration & Capability: Partner across teams to ensure compliance, grow funding opportunities, and build staff capability in international program design, cultural competence, and leadership.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a candidate who brings strong international credibility, preferably with direct experience engaging with DFAT, WHO, multilateral donors, or global universities. An entrepreneurial and strategic integrator with a track record in securing and managing multi-year funding, while also being able to translate this into program delivery.

The ideal candidate will have the cultural competence to work effectively across Indo-Pacific, and other international contexts, and the ability to represent RDN and ACHA confidently at international forums.
