Position Overview
As a Senior Support Worker, you will provide high-quality disability support while mentoring and supervising a team of support workers. You will ensure that all supports align with NDIS Practice Standards and promote the independence, dignity, and well-being of participants. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering best-practice disability services.
Key ResponsibilitiesParticipant Support:
- Provide person-centred support to participants, ensuring their needs, choices, and goals are met.
- Support participants with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, community access, and skill development.
- Promote independence by encouraging participants to make their own choices and engage in meaningful activities.
- Administer or assist with medication management as per participant care plans and guidelines.
- Monitor and report any changes in participant needs, health, or behaviour to the Service Manager.
Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Mentor and support junior support workers, ensuring they adhere to NDIS standards and company policies.
- Conduct on-the-job training and provide guidance on best practices.
- Assist in roster coordination, ensuring shifts are covered efficiently.
- Lead by example, fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate progress notes, incident reports, and shift summaries.
- Ensure all participant support plans and risk assessments are followed and updated as needed.
- Comply with NDIS Practice Standards, workplace health & safety (WHS), and duty of care obligations.
- Report any incidents, complaints, or safeguarding concerns to the Service Manager.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with families, guardians, and allied health professionals to ensure participants receive holistic support.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
- Advocate for participants' rights and support their self-determination and choice.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in disability support or a similar role.
- Certificate III or IV in Disability Support, Community Services, Individual Support, or equivalent.
- Experience in mentoring or leading a team is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of NDIS guidelines, human rights, and person-centred practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle complex situations with professionalism.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and incident reporting.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., for updating participant notes).
- Current First Aid & CPR Certificate.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check & Working with Children Check (WWCC) (if applicable).
- Driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle (preferred).
