Soapbox Beer is an independent, craft brewery, bar and kitchen in Fortitude Valley.

Established in 2018, the Soapbox Team delight in all things craft and our food menu is no exception. We take pride in satisfying bellies and thrilling our customers and we're looking for a passionate chef in a permanent, full-time role, who can work their magic, continuing to compliment delicious food with a range of tasty craft beers.

What you'll be doing:

  • As the head chef you'll be managing our restaurant and function menus and running our kitchen to service our customers, including functions like wedding receptions and corporate events
  • You are responsible for ensuring we have great food using locally sourced produce and you oversee food preparation and execution with your small team of kitchen staff
  • You'll ensure we design our restaurant and function menus and operate our kitchen to maximise quality, presentation, portion control and minimise wastage
  • You are responsible for working with our suppliers to source food and maintain our budgets
  • You oversee a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment, adhering to Occupational Health and Safety, along with food safety standards
  • You are responsible for weekly scheduling of the kitchen team, providing mentorship and training
  • You delegate tasks and resolve issues as they arise, liaising with the owner / general manager to ensure smooth operations

A bit about you:

  • Your hold a minimum of Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (essential) and have valid accreditations including Food Safety Supervisor certificate
  • You have 3 to 4 years of experience in a similar role
  • Your hands on attitude and enthusiasm for food energies the kitchen and its menu
  • You enjoy your work and its fast-paced environment and are comfortable with working in the kitchen alone at times or with a small team of casual kitchen staff
  • You select and / or surround yourself with a great back-of-house support team to work cooperatively and productively
  • You have a passion for hospitality (and beer, of course) and your professionalism is demonstrated in the quality food you produce, the work environment you foster and bellies you satisfy
  • You enjoy playing a vital role in a growing small business, value a team-focused, family-orientated culture and are a great communicator
  • You are responsible and proactive to monitor successes and propose change
