About Us
Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia's largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group's main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.
Job Description
- Lead a team of Regional Safety Advisors and Safety Coordinators who provide safety service delivery to the Qantas Group
- Take an opportunity to grow and diversify your career
- Permanent full-time position based at Melbourne Airport
We've always been pioneers, and we're proud to see that spirit in our people today. Our resilience has helped us through good and tough times, and it still drives us to keep pushing the challenging expectations today.
We're committed to providing a safe and injury-free workplace through world-class safety practices, integrating operational safety into all our business activities. Change is seen as an opportunity to improve. We thrive on uncertainty, and are ready to jump into action at a moment's notice. As a team, we rally together like no other, making each other feel supported, included and valued.
As the Safety Manager – VIC/TAS/SA, you'll lead a skilled team of Regional Safety Advisors and Safety Coordinators to deliver best-in-class Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) outcomes across Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia. Your leadership will be central to embedding the Group Safety Strategy at a regional level, ensuring it translates into practical, measurable improvements on the frontline.
In this highly visible role, you'll partner with stakeholders across the broader Qantas Group — including regulators, legal counsel, HR, and medical teams — to provide expert safety advice and support. You'll also work hand-in-hand with our business unit partners to implement both local and national safety strategies, ensuring alignment, compliance, and a strong, proactive safety culture. By driving operational excellence, mitigating risks, and fostering safety leadership, you'll play a pivotal role in protecting our people, our customers, and our reputation.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Extensive knowledge in WHS legislation and regulations for VIC, TAS and SA.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on coaching and talent management
- Safety and/or Health tertiary or postgraduate education.
- Experience in working within a business partnering or similar service model, including the ability to build constructive, effective and influential working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Good organisational skills, with ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently, under pressure and to meet deadlines
- The ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with all levels of management and external stakeholders.
- Prior experience delivering cross functional WHS and/or operational safety outcomes.
Why Qantas?
You'll join a team where creativity and passion are encouraged. Our people come together to allow us to dream big and deliver successfully.
There are many different opportunities across our team, which means you'll be able to grow both personally and professionally at Qantas. Your development is a priority for us – so that you can maintain the high standards our customers have come to expect and can continue to develop over time. You'll be supported from day 1 with on the job training and coaching as well as our formal training opportunities. While you may start in this role, we've got a great track record of supporting our people to take their career in so many different directions, the destinations are endless.
The Qantas employee benefits program offers amazing benefits that extend well beyond travel.
