The Role
The Finance team are part of the broader Operations team, who collaborate well together with the goal of enabling the business. We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant with payroll expertise to join our internal Finance team. If you're someone who loves balancing the books and making sure every payroll runs smoothly, we'd love to meet you. Please note our workforce is predominantly corporate in nature, with a small proportion of Clerks Award employees.
As the Management Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- End-to-end accounting for multiple entities including: GL reconciliations, general journals, prepayment management, accrual management and the delivery of timely management reports.
- Process payroll for all employees using Employment Hero, collaborating with People & Culture to ensure all employee changes are properly captured.
- Managing taxation obligations including BAS (Business Activity Statements), payroll tax, and other relevant compliance requirements.
- Manage end-to-end accounts payable and receipting function, payment processing, and records management to ensure accuracy, while supporting overall cash flow and financial accuracy.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and reconcile key balance sheet accounts to maintain accurate financial records and support the integrity of our management reporting.
- Manage trust account, adhering to policy, covering payments and periodic reconciliation of account.
- First review, prepare and process month-end journals and financial reports to support accurate and timely closing activities.
- Assisting with the firm's cash flow management processes, providing insights and supporting forecasting efforts.
- Administering and optimising our practice management software, ensuring data integrity and contributing to productivity reporting.
- Developing and delivering financial reports and analysis to support decision-making across the business
- Maintain organised and up-to-date financial and payroll records.
- Provide support during audits and help respond to external and internal inquiries.
- Assist the Finance Manager with data-driven insights, leveraging financial data to identify trends, risks and opportunities across the firm.
- Partake and assist the Finance Manager with the annual budget process, periodic forecasting, and variance analysis to aid stakeholder decision making.
- Contribute ideas for process improvements and help create a more efficient, supportive accounting team.

You bring strong organisational skills and a keen eye for detail, paired with sound judgment to navigate complex financial matters with confidence. You're a natural problem-solver with a thoughtful, analytical approach, and you communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders. You take ownership of your work and manage deadlines reliably, while also valuing teamwork and contributing positively to a collaborative environment. The successful candidate, although not a requirement, ideally will have a Business Advisory background, interested in making the transition to an internal Finance role.
Skills and experience
- Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or similar undergraduate degree.
- 3+ years of accounting experience; payroll processing experience is a must (training on Employment Hero can be provided)
- Proficiency with accounting software (Xero, Calxa and Power BI advantageous, but not required)
- Experience with APS and or XPM or similar practice management software (advantageous, but not required)
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Professional certification (or working towards) – Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
