to lead the delivery of secure, high-impact construction projects across DFAT's domestic portfolio.

About the Opportunity
The
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
is undertaking major domestic construction initiatives designed to enhance the physical and information security of Australia's facilities.
DFAT requires
two highly experienced Security Project Managers
to deliver these outcomes — professionals who combine technical depth with leadership presence and the ability to navigate complex government environments.
You'll represent DFAT's security interests, advise senior decision-makers, and ensure compliance with the
Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
and all relevant Commonwealth standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Security Project Manager with Azooa, you will:
- Lead
end-to-end delivery
of major security-focused construction projects, from Initiation to Handover and Defects Liability. - Ensure full compliance with
PSPF
, DFAT Tech Notes, and relevant legislation (WHS, NCC, BCA, DDA). - Provide expert advice and briefing support to DFAT leadership, offering clear, evidence-based recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with APS, IT, property, and contractor teams to ensure secure and efficient project outcomes.
- Manage contracts, governance, budgets, and risk across all project phases.
- Oversee project variations, maintain change control processes, and ensure quality assurance standards are met.
- Support APS capability uplift through mentoring, documentation, and training resource development.
What You Bring
We're looking for professionals who can confidently operate in complex, high-security environments while delivering consistent, compliant results.
You'll demonstrate:
- 10+ years' experience
managing complex or high-security construction projects. - Deep knowledge of the
Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
and DFAT Tech Notes. - Proven success advising high-level decision-makers on compliance and certification.
- Strong contract administration, financial management, and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement at all levels.
- A reputation for being a
trusted, effective security adviser
. - Current or ability to obtain
NV2 clearance
. - Australian citizenship
(mandatory).
Desirable Attributes
- Prior experience in Commonwealth or national security sectors.
- Strong relationships across the National Intelligence Community (NIC).
- Experience mentoring APS staff and building internal capability.
- Track record of delivery under tight timeframes and high compliance requirements.
