Role Overview
As our Defence and Security project portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for an experience Project Manager to join our team in Canberra. This key appointment will focus on enhancing our capabilities within the Defence and Security sectors. This role requires a strong background in contract management and project delivery, with the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines as you will take a leading role in delivering this critical and complex project, driving success from the front.
you will be responsible for managing the head contractor and design consultants, driving contract performance, and ensuring the project is delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.
The role also involves engagement with diverse stakeholder groups, sometimes with competing priorities, to ensure strategic project outcomes are achieved.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the project through delivery, handover and occupation, including managing Head Contractor and Design teams, and critical third-party infrastructure, in alignment with client objectives and strategic goals, while ensuring high standards of quality, compliance and performance.
- Oversee completion and HOTO, meeting all Defence and legislative requirements.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, government stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure clear communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor safety, quality, budget, and schedule, identifying potential risks and challenges throughout the project, implementing effective mitigation strategies to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
- Understand and manage project budgets, ensuring financial accountability, and delivering within agreed-upon financial parameters.
- Ensure project governance, reporting, and compliance obligations are met.
About You
- Proven infrastructure project management experience, with a strong background in planning and executing complex projects, particularly partnering with Defence and government clients.
- Significant experience in managing head contractors, with a demonstrated ability to lead contract administration and commercial negotiations to achieve strategic outcomes.
- Open communication that demonstrates clear, respectful, and solutions focused engagement that values diverse perspectives, while remaining decisive, positive, and outcome driven.
- A focus on building and maintaining strong client relationships through outstanding performance.
- Familiarity with Defence and Security planning, delivery, and government approval processes to ensure compliance and effectiveness in project execution.
- Minimum baseline security clearance is required with willingness/ability to upgrade to higher clearance if necessary.
- A relevant tertiary degree in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or a related discipline is desired.
