Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Construction Estimator located in the Greater Perth Area. The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing and developing accurate, detailed cost estimates and all associated documentation to support ICS Australia's construction bids. This role is crucial to securing successful contract awards through competitive, high-quality submissions.

Working collaboratively with the team, you will negotiate and explore value engineering opportunities to enhance profitably and deliver high-quality outcomes.

A key aspect of the role is building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

Organisational Relationship

The Construction Estimator reports directly to the General Manager and works in collaboration with the Project Manager.

They must work collaboratively with both internal and external key stakeholders to ensure smooth workflows and successful project outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

Estimating & Tender Submission

  • Manage multiple commercial project bids from pre-tender phase through to execution team handover, including qualitative criteria submissions.
  • Actively seek and assess new project opportunities and present viable tenders to management for review.
  • Evaluate drawings, specification and tender documentation, raising RFI's or clarifications as needed.
  • Identify and quantify risks associated with each project during the tender phase.
  • Attend tender site inspections and meetings; survey site/s and consult with relevant subcontractors to confirm scope and suitability.
  • Request, review and evaluate subcontractor and suppliers proposals; negotiate to ensure best value and project alignment.
  • Compile accurate and competitive cost estimates covering labour, materials, equipment and subcontractors for commercial projects ranging from $50k - $10m.
  • Develop detailed, realistic works program aligned with tender timeframes, incorporating critical path analysis and milestone tracking.
  • Determine logical provisional sum allowances, when necessary.
  • Produce and maintain high quality qualitative submission templates.
  • Finalise and submit compliant and timely tender submissions, following management review.
  • Conduct handover meetings post-award, providing comprehensive documentation and briefings to the project delivery team.
  • In consultation with Project Manager, undertake value engineering options to improve competitiveness without compromising quality.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in the building and construction industry (5yr+ commercial construction preferred).
  • Expert in the interpretation of technical drawings, sequencing, contractual terms and project deliverables and risks.
  • Proven ability to prepare detailed and practical construction works programs.
  • High-level analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation preparation skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
  • Familiarity with industry standard IT packages (eg Microsoft suite inc Project, Mac).
  • Ability to work in accordance with processes and procedures and identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to work well as part of a collaborative team.
