Our Policy Section supports our President and seven statutory Commissioners (Race, Age, Sex, Disability Discrimination; Children; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice and Human Rights) to promote awareness and understanding of human rights, conduct research and advocacy, and make recommendations to government to fully implement Australia's human rights obligations.

The Policy Section also supports the Commission's work on community and NGO engagement, human rights education, prevention of gendered violence, international engagement (through technical cooperation programs, engagement with other national human rights institutions and United Nations engagement) and partnerships with key government, industry and civil society organisations.

We're seeking Project Support Officers who are driven by purpose and committed to advancing human rights across Australia to join our dynamic policy division and support key strategic initiatives that promote and protect human rights across the nation. You will support project teams across Sex Discrimination, Race Discrimination, Disability Discrimination or Children's rights team.

These full-time / part time, non-ongoing positions offers a competitive salary range of $75,041- $83,074 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.

Skills & Experience

What You'll Do:

  • Administrative assistance including: diary management, arranging appointments, and meetings.
  • Logistics co-ordination for time sensitive community consultations taking a trauma-informed, solutions-based approach.
  • Organising travel and accommodation arrangements and bookings for the team as required. This includes budget support, including processing paperwork and reconciling accounts.
  • Database, file and record management (hardcopy and electronic), including data entry
  • Coordination of communication such as correspondence and telephone calls, including drafting responses on behalf of the Director, taking minutes at meetings.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities on project outcomes.
  • Under supervision undertake research to facilitate community engagement and consultation including stakeholder mapping.
  • Under supervision support the drafting of tailored, engaging consultation communications.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships to deliver project outcomes including with internal stakeholders.

What We're Looking For:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and/or experience in human rights is desirable.
  • Experience in community consultation and/or campaigns and public awareness initiatives is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-level executive and administrative support in a project setting.
  • Very good organisational and administrative skills including technology/computer skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision, to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyse policy issues.
  • Knowledge of best practice community engagement is desirable.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills – both oral and written.
