Operations Manager – Last Mile Logistics
Help us scale a growing circular economy business
The Business
Billy Bubbles solves a simple but frustrating problem: running out of gas for your Sodastream. Instead of customers carrying empty cylinders back to a store, we let them book online, leave cylinders at their door, and swap them for full ones.
We put customers and the planet first. Through a circular economy approach, we reduce waste and create convenience. With high year on year growth, we're scaling rapidly and need operations that can keep up.
The Role
The Operations Manager will be responsible for designing, improving, and scaling our last-mile delivery service. This is not a "keep the lights on" role, it's about building systems and processes that will work when we're twice the size in two years, without adding extra management layers.
You'll manage logistics operations, warehouse operations, and inventory, but the biggest part of the role is problem solving and systems design: anticipating issues before they happen, creating scalable solutions, and making data-informed decisions that reduce costs and errors.
Where We're At as a Business
Billy Bubbles is still in its early stages of growth. Right now, the full-time team is just me (the founder) and you (the operations manager), supported by our network of casual delivery drivers. That means your role will be broad and hands-on, there's no hiding in layers of management or waiting for someone else to pick up the slack.
As the business grows, other areas of the team (like customer support, marketing, and product development) will expand before operations does. This makes it even more important that operations are built on strong, scalable systems now. If processes rely too much on manual effort, they'll break under the pressure of high year-on-year growth. Your challenge, and opportunity, is to make sure operations stay smooth, efficient, and scalable without adding more management headcount.
For the right person, this is exciting. You'll have huge ownership and visibility, with your work directly shaping how we grow. But it also means the role requires resilience, problem solving, and the mindset to build things that last.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop strategies to scale last mile delivery that you execute in multiple cities around Australia.
Optimise logistics workflows for scalability, efficiency, and cost control.
Manage, train, and support delivery drivers, holding them accountable to performance standards.
Plan and oversee warehouse & inventory to ensure demand is met without inefficiency.
Build and document processes that are repeatable, simple, and scalable.
Track and analyse operational data to inform improvements.
Step in to resolve operational issues, but focus on systemic fixes over quick patches.
About You
You're someone who thrives on problem solving, data analysis, and building systems that make operations run smoothly without constant oversight. You're motivated by designing workflows, using digital tools, and creating scalable processes that reduce errors and manual effort. You take pride in identifying inefficiencies, building practical solutions, and implementing systems that allow your role to run almost on auto-pilot. You enjoy structure, detail, and long-term thinking, and you're energised by making things simpler, faster, and more reliable so the business can scale with confidence and without unnecessary complexity.
You can show experience in multi-stop home delivery logistics.
Skilled in problem solving, process design, and data analysis, not just firefighting.
Strong with digital tools (spreadsheets, order/inventory systems, automation).
Confident in improving team efficiency while maintaining a positive culture.
You can show experience in a lean/small team, high-growth environment where scalability is everything.
Not afraid to "get your hands dirty" but always focused on creating smarter systems.
eCommerce experience is a plus.
Business analytics experience in an operations environment
Comfortable working in small teams
You can show experience working in warehouse environments
You may have worked in these sort of roles:
Business Analyst (Operations/Logistics focus) – comfortable with data, reporting, and system improvement.
Last-Mile Delivery Manager – direct experience with multi-stop deliveries and managing driver performance.
Operations Manager in Startups / Small Businesses – exposure to lean environments where automation and systemisation replace extra headcount.
Logistics Coordinator / Transport Planner – experience in routing, scheduling, and optimising delivery operations.
Warehouse Operations Supervisor / Manager – hands-on with inventory, workflows, and process design.
E-Commerce Fulfilment Manager – scaling order fulfilment and delivery while using digital tools to streamline operations.
Process Improvement Specialist / Continuous Improvement Lead – background in problem solving, systems building, and scalability.
Our Vision
To bring the circular economy to every household in Australia.
Our Values
Our environmental efforts are humble and practical – real change through everyday actions.
We're all friends – we treat each other and our customers with respect and warmth.
We make lives brighter – adding convenience and joy in small but meaningful ways.
Make your younger self proud – we strive for creativity, fun, and purpose in what we do.
Application Process
To apply, please submit your CV along with a short cover letter that outlines why you're interested in this role and how your skills align with our needs. We strongly encourage candidates to also submit a short audio or video cover letter, it doesn't need to be polished or professional, just a simple recording introducing yourself and sharing why you think you'd be a good fit. These applications will be highly considered, as they help us get a sense of your communication style and personality beyond the CV.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a video interview, followed by an in-person interview with exercises designed to test problem solving, scalability, and technical skills.
