We are seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader of Payments for our Self-Insurance team. As the Team Leader you will oversee the processing and payment of workers compensation claims, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. In doing this you will lead and supervise a team of Payment/Claims Support Officer, ensuring compliance with workers compensation legislation, policies, and internal procedures.

Responsibilities and duties

Team Management & Leadership

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Allocate workloads and manage leave to ensure consistent team coverage.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate updates, priorities, and training.
  • Identify training needs and support the upskilling of team members.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Perform regular audits to ensure payments are accurate and justified.
  • Investigate discrepancies or errors in payment processing.
  • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Liaise with internal audit or compliance teams when needed.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Collaborate with case managers, insurers, and finance teams to resolve payment issues.
  • Communicate effectively with injured workers or legal representatives regarding payment status.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex or sensitive payment matters.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Generate and review reports on payment volumes, turnaround times, and error rates.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on data trends.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting related to claims payouts

Required skills, experience and qualifications

  • Experience in processing workers compensation payments or claims
  • Good understanding of workers compensation laws and policies
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a team
  • Experience working in insurance, government, or a similar regulated industry
  • Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills
  • Familiarity with claims management or payment systems
  • Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines
  • Experience reviewing payment accuracy and resolving issues
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and other basic software
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
