The Role
We're looking for a Head Chef to lead our culinary team, craft menus that celebrate seasonal produce, and deliver exceptional dining experiences from sunrise to sunset. Join us at The Balfour Kitchen & Bar, a vibrant dining destination in the heart of New Farm. By day, we're a relaxed breakfast café and weekend brunch spot serving classic dishes, fresh coffee, and signature cocktails under the shade of our leafy courtyard. By night, we transform into an intimate wine bar with share plates, premium charcuterie, and chef-driven creations in a stylish, eclectic setting.
The role and key duties;
- Build our reputation for unforgettable dining and grazing experiences, creating menus and dishes that leave a lasting impression on every guest.
- Lead and inspire a small kitchen team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration while delivering a profitable dining experience aligned with the restaurant's vision.
- Design and deliver menus for breakfast, weekend brunch, and evening wine bar service, showcasing creativity and seasonal produce.
- Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation across all dishes, maintaining the highest standards at every service.
- Manage food costs, ordering, and supplier relationships, ensuring efficiency and sustainability in all operations.
- Be a key member of the management team, working closely with the General Manager to drive the success of the restaurant and the retreat as a whole.
Essential criteria required to be considered;
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a high-end dining environment, demonstrating your ability to manage and inspire a team in a fast-paced, premium setting.
- A hands-on leadership style, with a genuine commitment to training, mentoring, and developing your team to achieve their full potential.
- Proven ability to design creative, innovative, and award-winning menus that showcase seasonal produce and elevate the guest experience.
- A track record of sourcing and producing the highest quality food, with strong knowledge of local suppliers, market trends, and emerging culinary concepts.
- Strong financial acumen, including the ability to manage COGs, labour percentages, and overall kitchen budgets to ensure profitability and efficiency.
- Exceptional communication skills and an eye for detail, ensuring seamless collaboration across the team and consistently high standards in every dish.
