About ADEC
In 1982, a small group of passionate individuals came together with a simple yet profound vision: to ensure that people with disabilities from Victoria's ethnic communities were seen, heard, and treated with dignity. From those humble beginnings, ADEC (Action on Disability within Ethnic Communities Inc.) was born.
For more than four decades, we have stood side by side with individuals and families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, fighting for equality, amplifying their voices, and building bridges of inclusion. Our mission has never wavered—to empower every person we serve to live with independence, respect, and the opportunity to thrive.
We believe that diversity is strength, and every person has the right to belong. Through tireless advocacy and culturally responsive support, we have created meaningful change across the disability and aged care sectors while nurturing vibrant, cohesive communities.
Today, ADEC supports a wide network of ethnic communities with an extensive range of programs, including advocacy, disability services, aged care, and community capacity building. While our services have grown, our purpose remains the same: to champion the right of every person to live a life of dignity, inclusion, and empowerment.
Essential Skills & Experience:
· Previous Board or senior governance experience
· Strategic thinking and strong communication skills
· Understanding of aged care, disability, and/or multicultural sectors
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
We are particularly interested in expertise in:
· Financial management and governance (CPA sought)
· Clinical governance, quality, and risk management
· Lived experience of disability (personal or familial)
Commitment:
· Monthly Board meetings (via Teams) and three in-person meetings annually
· Board Sub-Committee meetings (at least 1 committee) 3-6 meetings online or in person per year
· Annual General Meeting and strategic planning days with the Executive Team
