Principal Mechanical Engineer
 to drive innovation, asset performance, and technical excellence across our expanding rail and industrial energy portfolio.

About the Role

You'll lead a small, high-performing engineering team responsible for 
asset management, technical governance, and reliability programs
 across our national operations. From driving continuous improvement initiatives to delivering new technology commissioning and lifecycle cost optimisation, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring safety, performance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering programs focused on reliability, risk reduction, and fleet optimisation.
  • Oversee capital projects, budgets, and technical compliance for mechanical and electrical assets.
  • Provide technical governance, approvals, and CPEng sign-off for safety-critical systems.
  • Direct commissioning and testing programs with OEMs and infrastructure partners.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-driven analysis, RCA, and predictive maintenance tools.
  • Collaborate across operations, maintenance, and supply chain teams to embed engineering excellence.

About You

You're a 
results-driven engineer
 with a passion for reliability and innovation. You thrive in complex technical environments and enjoy developing both systems and people.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons) or equivalent.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, NER) or working towards chartership.
  • 5–10 years' experience in rail, transport, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proven success leading reliability or asset management projects.
  • Experience with CMMS, FMEA, RCA, and RAM tools.
  • Proficiency in SAP, Power BI, or similar analytics platforms.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
