About Jumbunna

Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research (Jumbunna) at UTS assists the University to contribute effectively to Australia's educational and social development by making UTS staff and students aware of Indigenous Australian cultures and associated issues. About the role

The Institute Operations Officer is a key position within the Jumbunna Institute-Research professional staff team and will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient management of its core functions including finance, human resources, procurement, records management, and Work Health and Safety obligations. The position will work collaboratively with central university units to deliver on strategic and operational priorities.

About You

As the Institute Operations Officer, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with university policies, funding body requirements, legislative obligations, and research governance standards.
  • Oversee and improve administrative systems, processes, and risk mitigation frameworks to support accountability and operational efficiency.
  • Support financial operations including budget coordination, procurement, Concur acquittals, expenditure tracking, and reporting.
  • Manage records and documentation to ensure secure, compliant, and auditable systems.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Research Institute and functional support teams, including Finance, People & Culture, and IT.
  • Promote and implement workplace health and safety practices to support a safe and compliant work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing administrative and operational systems to ensure compliance with university policies, funding body requirements, and legal obligations, with a strong understanding of governance frameworks in a research or higher education environment.
  • Proven ability to manage internal systems for risk mitigation, compliance tracking, and document management, including the development and implementation of procedures that support institutional accountability and operational efficiency.
  • A strong track record of facilitating financial operations including budget coordination, procurement processes, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting, preferably within a research or academic setting.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and liaison skills, with a strong track record of effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams including Finance, People & Culture, and IT.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, with experience facilitating WHS initiatives and contributing to a culture of wellbeing and safety in the workplace.

Remuneration & Benefits Salary: $105,814 pa (HEW 7.1) This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
