The Project Officer supports the Senior Advisor to the CEO in delivering a diverse range of projects that strengthen governance, culture, and organisational performance. This dynamic role suits a highly organised professional who can manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively across teams, and uphold GEGAC's values of self-determination, accountability, and cultural integrity.
Organisational Profile
GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Consisting of about 190 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
The Project Officer provides high-quality coordination, research, and implementation support to the Senior Advisor to the CEO across a diverse portfolio of organisational and community projects.
Operating within a dynamic environment, the role requires flexibility to work across multiple projects simultaneously ranging from governance reform and cultural initiatives to operational improvement and community engagement priorities.
The Project Officer contributes to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of initiatives that strengthen organisational performance, cultural safety, and strategic alignment. Working closely with internal divisions, external partners, and community stakeholders, the role ensures that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and consistent with GEGAC's values of self-determination, accountability, and cultural integrity.
Key Selection Criteria
• Project Management Skills: Demonstrated skills and experience in managing projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Problem Solving: Skilled in gathering relevant data, analysing issues from multiple perspectives, and identifying practical, culturally safe solutions. Able to evaluate the effectiveness of actions and adjust approaches as needed.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
• Certificate in Project Management, Business, or Governance ESSENTIAL
• A diploma or Degree in Project Management, Business, or Governance HIGHLY DESIRABLE
• Demonstrated experience in project coordination, policy or governance support, preferably within Aboriginal Community Controlled or public sector organisations ESSENTIAL
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, minutes, and correspondence for executive use ESSENTIAL
• High-level organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities ESSENTIAL
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a culturally diverse environment ESSENTIAL
• Understanding of Aboriginal culture, community priorities, and cultural safety principles ESSENTIAL
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools ESSENTIAL
• Valid Driver's Licence: A current and unrestricted Victorian Driver's Licence is essential, as the role involves regular travel across the Gippsland and East Gippsland region to engage with community, staff, service sites, and external stakeholders ESSENTIAL
• A satisfactory Victorian Working with Children's Check and a satisfactory National Police Check, including a satisfactory Bankruptcy Check ESSENTIAL
• A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background ESSENTIAL
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
