GEGAC is seeking a skilled Communications & Engagement Manager to lead our brand, communications, and engagement strategy. This role ensures culturally grounded messaging across all platforms, aligned with our Strategic Plan and Cultural Framework. You'll also supervise the Events & Engagement Officer and work closely with the Executive Team to uphold GEGAC's values of cultural safety, respect, accountability, and collaboration.
Organisational Profile
GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 180 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
The Communications & Engagement Manager leads GEGAC's internal and external communications, brand, and engagement strategy to strengthen the organisation's public voice, protect its reputation, and ensure culturally grounded messaging across all platforms in alignment with the GEGAC Strategic Plan. The Manager also provides direct supervision to the Events & Engagement Officer, ensuring that all community events and engagement activities reflect GEGAC's Cultural Framework, while consistently modelling the GEGAC Leadership behaviours of cultural safety, respect, accountability, and collaboration. The role operates under the oversight and direction of the Executive Team, ensuring communications reflect organisational priorities and cultural authority.
Key Selection Criteria (Qualifications and Registrations Requirement)
• Qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or equivalent experience ESSENTIAL
• Demonstrated experience in a senior communications or engagement role, preferably in an Aboriginal or community health context ESSENTIAL
• Proven ability to manage communications strategy, campaigns, and media relations ESSENTIAL
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage Elders, government, media, and community ESSENTIAL
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and support staff ESSENTIAL
• Strong project and organisational management skills with the ability to work under pressure ESSENTIAL
• Commitment to Aboriginal community control, cultural safety, and self-determination ESSENTIAL
• ability to model and uphold the GEGAC Leadership behaviours ESSENTIAL
• Valid driver's licence ESSENTIAL
• Ability to travel across Gippsland and occasionally interstate ESSENTIAL
• A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
• A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
• Experience working within an ACCHO or Aboriginal organisation DESIRABLE
• Familiarity with East Gippsland communities and Gunaikurnai Country DESIRABLE
• Skills in digital media, graphic design, or video production DESIRABLE
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
