Primary objective
To provide leadership and high-level strategic support to the development, implementation and maintenance of the agency's corporate
governance framework and practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement of effective governance systems.
Context statement
As the Governance lead for the department, the role has direct responsibility for managing the corporate governance framework, relevant
policies and reporting functions. The broader work branch comprises of: Office of the CEO, Secretariat; Communications, Media and
Engagement; People, Safety and Culture; and the Audit, Risk and Investigations Unit.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of an effective corporate governance framework that aligns to government
priorities to ensure efficient operation and reporting requirements are met.
- Provide strategic advice and support to senior executives, governance committees and staff to support governance development,
including the appropriate flow of information, performance measurement and approval pathways.
3. Deliver high quality secretariat services to the executive management board, executive leadership team and other key governance
committees, including agenda preparation, coordination and preparation of briefing papers and meeting minutes.
- Implement, maintain and provide advice on the management of conflicts of interest and gifts and benefits, including the review of
policies and registers to identify trends, issues and ensure compliance with delegations and appropriate mitigation strategies.
5. Prepare high level correspondence such as Ministerial and Legislative Assembly briefings, memorandums, reports and other agency
publications.
- Undertake research and lead strategic projects analysing governance policy/issues and developing solutions.
- Engage, consult, and collaborate with a range of stakeholders to proactively manage and participate in governance activities and forums
including operational business planning.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience implementing and monitoring corporate governance frameworks and structures, with an understanding of risk
management and decision-making processes and the ability to identify areas for continuous improvement.
2. Sound organisational and project/program management skills, able to deliver projects and work on time and manage deadlines while
maintaining a high standard of attention to detail and accuracy.
3. Experience providing secretariat support to senior management, including Boards or Committees, and ability to provide advice and
guidance to senior management on government protocols and procedures, with the skills to influence and collaborate with a solutions
focus.
- Well-developed writing skills with experience researching, developing and implementing policies, procedures and briefings with clear
and succinct recommendations to support the operations of the department.
- Demonstrated strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to use initiative and exercise judgement and
discretion to make recommendations and implement innovative solutions in a busy and changing environment.
- A very high standard of integrity and professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work autonomously and work effectively as a part of a team as required.
Desirable
1. Qualifications in business management, project management or other relevant discipline.
2. Training and courses undertaken in governance, risk management, and/or internal audit.
