Primary objectives

Provide assistance to the Clerk and Deputy Clerk in performing corporate governance functions,

including coordinating and reporting on the Department's implementation of its strategic plan and

associated projects; maintaining the Department's risk management strategy; producing the Annual

Report and other reports as required, assisting in the management of a number of internal and

parliamentary committees, and completing project-based work as required.

Context statement

The Department of the Legislative Assembly provides the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, its

Members and Committees with quality and timely support for the operation of the Parliament,

Parliamentary Committees, the Parliament House precinct, and Electorate Offices (and staff).

The Office if the Clerk provides advice to the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly

regarding administrative and procedural matters. It also provides executive leadership for the

Department of the Legislative Assembly.

Key responsibilities

1. Assist in the coordination, implementation and review of the Department's Strategic Plan, Annual

Report and other corporate reports as necessary.

2. Provide project management and reporting for projects being undertaken by the Department.

  1. Manage the Department's risk and compliance program and risk register.
  2. Manage, in coordination with impacted business units, the regular review and updating of the

Department's policies.

  1. Manage and complete projects for the Office of the Clerk, including across agency work and

coordination projects.

6. Provide secretariat support to the Department's Audit and Risk Management Committee, and the

Assembly's House, Privileges and Standing Orders committees.

7. Coordinate inter-parliamentary relationships with Australian and international jurisdictions, including

provision of secretariat support for the NT Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

8. Assist as a Clerk-at-the Table during Assembly sittings.

9. Assist with the administrative work of the Office of the Clerk.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in delivering administrative projects, including project management and

reporting.

2. Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage workloads and projects to meet deadlines.

3. Significant experience in the management of corporate governance such as compliance, risk and audit

4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team

environment.

5. High level research and writing skills, including the ability to develop corporate governance policies.

6. Ability to maintain political impartiality and strict confidentiality.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in a suitable field, such as politics, arts, law or public administration.

Requirements for selection and undertaking the role
