About the Role

The Payroll Officer supports accurate and timely payroll processing. The incumbent offers guidance on policy adherence and resolves complex payroll issues. Through cross-functional collaboration, they support the delivery of high-quality payroll solutions and services using Oracle PeopleSoft.

Our team provides support and services for the Department of Education in addition to five other associated entities.

The services the incumbent may provide are:

  • Payroll reconciliation - ensuring the fortnightly pay run balances
  • Payment of the Commonwealth Paid Parental Leave payments
  • Management of personal overpayment repayments
  • Management of taxation for VISA holders
  • Responding to general inquiries
  • Superannuation - both accumulation funds & defined benefit schemes:
  • Assisting with the daily Superannuation Clearing House processes
  • Reviewing & actioning system generated reports
  • Processing Self-Managed Super Fund requests

About the Division

People and Workplace Relations (Schools) supports the School Workforce group in the delivery of workforce supply initiatives, to ensure schools are provided with a sustainable workforce who are supported and have expertise to deliver excellence for Victoria's students.

The division sits within the Schools Workforce group and is:

  • Focused on growing the supply of teachers across Victoria
  • Creating better distribution of quality teachers to geographical and subject areas of need
  • Supporting hard-to-staff schools to recruit and retain teachers
  • Delivering quality HR and employee relations advice and services to schools.

About the Branch

The Schools People Services branch provides support and advice in the areas of human resources policy, payroll and leave, recruitment, and targeted initiatives.

Functions include:

  • Providing support and advice on payroll and recruitment
  • Support school workforce performance and development
  • Supporting Schools Workforce Planning
  • HR data analysis and reporting and Workforce Supply and Demand Report
  • Implementation and management of a range of workforce supply initiatives aimed at increasing supply and distribution of teachers across Victoria

About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services. The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated work experience in high volume Payroll operations or a similar field
  • Experience using payroll systems such
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Leading a team in a result driven payroll environment
  • Strong customer service and both written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving and investigating of complex queries with a focus on providing positive outcomes
