We are looking for an enthusiastic Cook to join our friendly team.

Christian Youth Camps Ltd (CYC), a mission of the Christian Community Churches of Victoria & Tasmania, is a Christian Not for Profit organisation, committed to the Christian Faith.

CYC Adanac, set on 13 acres of parkland, natural bush, a recreational lake and magnificent views over the Yarra Ranges, is one of Victoria's favourite group accommodation facilities for schools, churches and community groups.

About the Job:

  • Casual position on a 7-day rotating roster between 7 am and 7:30 pm.

Key Tasks:

Reporting to the Head of Catering, the Cook's main goal is to ensure that our guests receive delicious and nutritious meals on time, following the food safety plan and served with exceptional customer service. Key Tasks include:

  • Prepare and cook meals as per the pre-arranged menu
  • Oversee special diets
  • Communicate with guests regarding the needs of their groups, including dietary needs
  • Monitor food quality and presentation
  • Ensure food service areas are clean and organised.
  • Assist in the development and creation of new menu items.
  • Adhere to the food safety program and kitchen cleaning/maintenance programs
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff to ensure a high level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Communicate with guests in the dining room to ensure a seamless service flow.

About You:

  • Relevant previous experience or qualifications are helpful
  • Strong knowledge of special diets
  • Knowledge of food safety requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly customer service-focused
  • You love working in a team environment
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Am I suited? This role would suit someone who lives close to Yarra Junction, is keen to join a caring staff community, and has the flexibility to work the hours below.
  • What are the shifts? The breakfast/lunch shift is from 7am to 2pm. Dinner shift is 4:30pm - 7:30pm. We're open 7 days, except Christmas.
  • Is a qualification required? No, but it's a strong advantage.
  • Is there training? Yes. Camp cooking is different to cafes/restaurants, so we will train you to use our system and kitchen.
  • Is it stressful? Not at all. We have a relaxed team of predominantly working parents who have been here for over a decade. No yelling in this kitchen. We're all about having fun with the kids & teachers who are here to have a great time at camp.
