MacDonald Law is a growing boutique practice that is well regarded for its expertise in Criminal, Family, Succession and Property law.

The role is an entry level position intended for someone with less than one year PAE. However, applicants with up to 3 years PAE will be considered.

The successful applicant would join a fast-paced team of criminal lawyers who appear in courts across South-West Queensland: from Toowoomba, Brisbane, Gold Coast and the western region. MacDonald Law has offices in Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This role will be based in Brisbane predominantly but will require travel to other offices and courts across Queensland from time to time.

The opportunity will afford the successful applicant an environment to expand their legal knowledge, advocacy and skills. The current team consists of a number of experienced and well-respected criminal lawyers who will mentor the successful applicant on a day-to-day basis.

The successful applicant will have a strong desire to learn and expand their skillset particularly as an advocate. The role will see you appear as Solicitor Advocate in Court most days, along with instructing experienced criminal law Counsel on a regular basis. You will also have the opportunity to become criminal law duty lawyer accredited as well as appearing across a number of jurisdictions.

Your role will include:

  • Management of files, both legally aided and private
  • Appearances in court
  • Effective time management
  • Client management
  • Ability to work well with support staff and manage delegation of tasks within the team
  • Provision of appropriate and considered legal advice
  • Instructing counsel on complex matters in the District and Supreme Courts
  • Other tasks as delegated by the Director and senior lawyers in the team

Required

  • Must be admitted as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland and be the holder of (or be eligible for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate or be completing their PLT and be in a position to be admitted as a Legal Practitioner within 4 months;
  • Hold a current Driver Licence and be willing to drive for work (essential);
  • Be organised and have excellent time management skills;
  • Have the ability to work independently, but also in a team.

As this role involves travel between court houses, applicants must have a drivers licence and motor vehicle.

Salary is commensurate with experience.  Position is available to commence immediately, as this is a new role within our team.
