We are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Cyber Security Officer to strengthen the City's cyber security posture and lead the ongoing maturity of the Australian Cyber Security Centre's Essential Eight framework.

About the Role
Reporting to the Information Technology Governance Coordinator, the Cyber Security Officer is pivotal in managing cyber threats, enhancing AI-driven security operations, and ensuring compliance with legislation such as the
Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) and the Cyber Security Act 2024 (WA)
.
You will play a key role in safeguarding digital assets, managing identity and access controls, and educating internal stakeholders on cyber security and responsible AI use.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Essential Eight maturity roadmap, embedding practices across the organisation and reporting progress to executive leadership.
- Monitor and respond to cyber threats, incidents, and vulnerabilities across the City's IT environment.
- Leverage AI tools to automate tasks, enhance threat detection, and manage secure information access.
- Deliver cyber security awareness training and act as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with cyber security legislation, privacy regulations, and contribute to policy development and risk mitigation strategies.
About the Successful Candidate
You are a proactive and analytical professional with a strong background in cyber security and a keen interest in AI technologies. You thrive in dynamic environments, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.
You will bring:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in Cyber or Information Security, ideally within government or similar organisations.
- Demonstrated experience with network, endpoint, cloud, and identity security, including SIEM and vulnerability management tools.
- Strong knowledge of Essential Eight, NIST, ISO/IEC 27001 frameworks and cyber security legislation.
- Experience using AI/ML tools for threat detection, automation, and predictive analytics.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, CCNA, CompTIA Security+, or Microsoft/AWS/Azure Security.
- A current 'C' class Driver's Licence and National Police Certificate.
What We Offer
This permanent, full-time position offers a salary of $98,805 - $114,945 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, plus superannuation.
