The Western Australian Aboriginal Child Health Survey (WAACHS) was the largest and most comprehensive survey ever undertaken into the health, wellbeing and development of Western Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

The survey was designed to build the knowledge to develop preventative strategies that promote and maintain the healthy development and the social, emotional, academic and vocational wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.

**The Opportunity**

This role will deliver advanced analytical support to the Investigator team working on a large-scale, complex linked data project focusing on Aboriginal health—the Western Australian Aboriginal Child Health Survey (WAACHS) Linked Data Study. Utilising data from the 2000-02 WAACHS connected to various Western Australian government records spanning several decades, the study's sub-projects are guided by the Study Investigators and the Aboriginal Steering Committee. Responsibilities include data wrangling, managing databases, creating statistical analysis plans, working in R Studio, describing data and performing statistical modelling, preparing draft outputs for review by Investigators and advisory groups, and presenting findings for publication and broader dissemination.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst to join our team and support a range of sub-studies outlined by study investigators and the Aboriginal Steering Committee.

Some of your duties will include but are not limited to:

- Contribute to dataset cleaning, standardisation and management as required, utilising existing procedures and set up procedures as required for quality assurance and data validation.
- Create analytic datasets by integrating data from multiple data sources.
- Conduct appropriate statistical analysis in a reproducible research framework (descriptive through to complex longitudinal modelling).
- Ensure that all analyses and reporting meet Aboriginal research standards, is culturally sensitive and consistent with the overarching study narrative.
- Actively participate in meetings with Investigators, the research team and external stakeholders to communicate results and provide feedback.
- Undertake professional development training as required (including cultural awareness, Aboriginal research standards and statistical methods).

This is a full-time position based at Perth Children’s Hospital, initially for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension.

**About You**
- Excellent programming skills and proficiency with statistical software packages for the manipulation and analysis of data (strong preference for R skills).
- Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate statistical ideas and results (both written and oral) with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Good time and project management skills, including maintaining open communication regarding project progress; an ability to take responsibility for own work.
- Understand issues related to data governance (security/ privacy).
