Nedlands, Australia The Kids Research Institute Australia Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

The Opportunity

We are seeking highly motivated researchers to join our Global Malaria Epidemiology team as part of the Malaria Atlas Project (MAP). This project assembles global databases on malaria risk and intervention coverage and develops innovative analysis methods that use data to address critical questions. These include better understanding the global landscape of malaria risk, how this is changing, and the impact of malaria interventions. By modelling burden, trends, and impact at a fine geographical scale we support informed decision making for malaria control at international, regional and national scales.

In both roles, you will:

  • Support the implementation and development of MAP's spatiotemporal modelling infrastructure to predict malaria transmission and burden
  • Produce coverage estimates of malaria interventions (e.g. insecticide treated bed nets, seasonal malaria chemoprevention, indoor residual spraying and vaccines).
  • Collaborate with global partners such as WHO, IHME, and CHAI.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and present findings at meetings and conferences.

As a Senior Research Officer, you will also:

  • Lead the development of new statistical methodologies and modelling approaches.
  • Supervise junior researchers and contribute to securing research funding.

Based at Perth Children's Hospital, both roles are full time, fixed-term positions until 31st July 2027.

About You

For both roles, you will bring the following skills and experience:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in mathematics, statistics, epidemiology, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Expertise in Bayesian or frequentist statistical modelling.
  • Expertise developing new statistical methods or adapting existing approaches to new applications.
  • Strong skills in scientific computing, big data, or data science, with good coding practices and version control.
  • Excellent communication skills and evidence of successful collaboration in team-based research.
  • A developing publication record relative to career stage.

As a Senior Research Officer, you will also have:

  • At least 3+ years' postdoctoral experience with strong knowledge of malaria epidemiology.
  • Demonstrated project leadership in or supervising junior researchers.

We are driving inclusion and diversity as part of the way we work and embrace the diverse career and life experiences of our staff. If you meet a number of the requirements (and not all), we encourage you to submit your application. We also encourage you to address any career disruptions (if applicable) you may have had in your cover letter.

If you meet many, but not all, of the role requirements, we encourage you to apply. We also welcome you to mention any career breaks in your cover letter to help us understand your journey.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected in how we:

  • Support staff-led inclusion and allyship groups.
  • Offer flexible work practices that recognise different needs and life stages.
  • Provide training, development and mentoring opportunities to increase inclusive leadership and create an environment where all staff can thrive.
  • Partner with communities to strength cultural awareness and belonging.
  • Ensure adjustments and accessible practices are available for diverse community groups.
  • We continually strive to measure our progress and improve where we can.

Alongside our inclusive culture, you'll enjoy:

  • Extra annual leave at Christmas and Easter.
  • Salary packaging and entertainment benefits.
  • Health and wellbeing programs with weekly events.
  • Flexible and hybrid working options.
  • Recognition and professional development opportunities, including LinkedIn Learning.
  • Modern offices with sit-to-stand desks and end-of-trip facilities.
  • Staff discounts on travel, IT, stationery, and access to corporate health insurance.

How to Apply

If this role feels like the right fit and an exciting new opportunity for you,
