The Structural Steel Receiving & Verification Inspector is a critical, hands-on role responsible for ensuring the accurate and safe delivery and acceptance of all incoming fabricated steel components. This position requires specialised knowledge of structural steel and an absolute commitment to Inbound Quality Control (QC). The Inspector will conduct mandatory, comprehensive quality checks on every truck that is unloaded to verify material completeness, condition, accurate numbering, and compliance with delivery documentation before acceptance. Timely and accurate reporting of material status to Head Office is a core function.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Inbound Quality Assurance & Steel Verification (Mandatory)

  2. Conduct comprehensive quality checks on every delivery truck upon arrival and during the unloading process. This includes visually inspecting the load against the manifest/delivery ticket to verify that all ordered steel structures, beams, plates, and connection materials are present.

  3. Verify the correct identification, numbering, and tagging of all steel components received against the job specifications and workshop drawings.
  4. Inspect the condition of all delivered steel for transit damage, rust, or incorrect fabrication; documenting and reporting any defects immediately.
  5. Ensure the safe and correct unloading of materials is performed by the delivery team, monitoring activities to minimize damage.
  6. Identify and immediately report any discrepancies, damage, or missing items to the relevant Project Manager or Head Office, completing necessary documentation for non-conforming product reports.
  7. Maintain accurate, digital records of all delivery acceptance checks, driver sign-offs, and time stamps.

  8. Reporting & Communication

  9. Provide timely, detailed, and accurate daily receiving reports back to the Head Office and Project Management teams detailing material acceptance and any issues encountered.

  10. Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders (Inventory, Project Managers) regarding confirmed material acceptance and the location of staged components.
  11. Maintain open and professional communication with transport drivers, ensuring clear instructions are provided regarding site safety protocols and efficient offloading areas.
  12. Ensure all activities strictly adhere to site OHS procedures and regulatory requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Inbound Quality Control, Receiving, or Inspection, ideally within the structural steel, fabrication, or heavy engineering industries.
  • Must have White Card
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of structural steel components, terminology, and material types (e.g., universal beams, columns, trusses, connection plates).
  • Proven experience in conducting meticulous quality control checks against technical documentation (e.g., manifests, delivery notes).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy under pressure.
  • High-level communication skills for internal reporting and professional interaction with drivers.
