About Hawthorne Civil
At Hawthorne Civil, we deliver quality-driven outcomes across civil infrastructure. Since 2013, our team of 130+ professionals has been shaping major projects across Queensland and New South Wales—specialising in form, reinforcement, and pour (FRP) works, temporary structures, and complex structural packages.
Working alongside leading Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, we integrate seamlessly into project delivery teams—bringing certainty, capability, and confidence to every stage of the job.
Now, as our business continues to expand, we're seeking a Group Accounting Manager to play a pivotal role in driving financial performance and operational excellence across the group.
The Role
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this position leads the day-to-day finance operations across all group entities. You'll be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll oversee core financial processes, mentor team members, and drive automation and process improvement to strengthen the company's financial foundations.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the month-end close process and deliver accurate consolidated reports.
• Support preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, including variance analysis and forecasting.
• Manage audits, liaising directly with external auditors.
• Oversee compliance across ATO, payroll tax, superannuation, and workers' compensation obligations.
• Maintain integrity of the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial controls.
• Manage accounting for fixed assets and associated financing.
• Provide oversight of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Partner with business stakeholders to provide actionable financial insights.
• Drive efficiency, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead and develop a high-performing finance team.
Skills & Experience
• CA or CPA qualified.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 4+ years post-qualification experience, ideally within construction or civil infrastructure.
• Strong technical accounting and compliance knowledge.
• Proven leadership experience in managing financial operations or audits.
• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience with Xero or FoundU (desirable).
• ERP implementation experience (advantageous).
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Personal Attributes
• Professional and collaborative approach.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Resilient under pressure with a high attention to detail.
• Positive mindset and ability to drive change.
• Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities.
Why Join Us
At Hawthorne Civil Group, you'll be part of a growing business with a strong reputation in the civil construction sector. You'll work alongside a supportive leadership team committed to professional development, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
If you're ready to take the next step in your finance career and help shape the financial backbone of a rapidly growing infrastructure business—we'd love to hear from you.
